In May 1995 a group of people interested in preserving Waterman’s past established the Waterman Area Heritage Society. At first, the Society was located in the former Kitner Barber Shop building. In July 1999 a building was purchased at 180 West Lincoln Highway. After much remodeling, treasures of the past were displayed. We have exhibits of telephones, a barbershop, DeKalb Ag-Monsanto memorabilia, Waterman Schools and so much more.

Currently, our dedicated volunteers, Sherrie Martin and Sue Breeze have completed cataloging our museum collection. The index is electronically stored for easier access to our information. The girls are back at the library indexing the 1950’s scrapbooks.

We have two annual fundraisers. The pie auction is held during the September Homecoming-Fall Fest and the Ham and Turkey Dinner in February.

We are open every Saturday afternoon 1-3 or call for an appointment at 815-264-7717 or 815-264-7773. We welcome you and appreciate your visit.
