A letter to the Waterman Business Association (WBA) from the President of the WBA

Dear Members:

The purpose of the Waterman Business Association is to support, improve, and nurture the growth of the business climate in the Village of Waterman and in the general Waterman area.   Why is it necessary for the association to do the above?  We have an important role to play in the growth and diversification of our tax base, and one of the important components of that base is sales tax.  We cannot control the county when it reassesses our property,  causing our taxes to increase.  However, we can manage to offset or neutralize these actions by producing more sales tax in our village.

One of our members has come forth with an economic development plan to increase sales tax.  However, we need all of us to come up with ideas and bring energy to implement ideas to help our current businesses to grow and, of course, add new ones.

In addition to stimulating our tax base to enable it to grow and diversify, another part of the association is to conduct various social events that will not only raise money for the association to help keep it viable but will also allow us to get  more of the community involved and have some fun doing it.

As we start 2008, we, as an organization, have numerous obstacles, such as the current economy, but we also have opportunities to accomplish the above.  Will it be easy?  No, it will not!  However, if we, as a group, are committed to what we want to achieve as an organization, we can do it!  BUT WE NEED ALL OF US.  Therefore, I would like to see more of you come to the meetings (last Tuesday of each month) with your ideas and energy.  We can have some fun (and get rid of some of our daily stresses by getting our minds off them by doing other endeavors) and fulfilling our goals as an organization, which will then pay big dividends for our community and ourselves by reaching what we set out to do.

If you can’t always attend the meetings, I’d still like to know what your thoughts are.

Sincerely,

Roger Bosworth

President, WBA
